Too many plans!

Hello fellow sewers, I am in a quandary. To date, I have been a methodical stitcher: sew project 1, think about project 2, sew project 2... It's organised and efficient.  But at the moment I have too many plans, and I want to sew everything now, now, now.

I need another Delphine skirt in my life as I live in my Xmas one. I have bought some lovely bright blue linen, and it's killing me not to start on it. I 'd also like to try trousers and have offered to make my mum some pyjama pants for her birthday as a way into this. So far, though, all I have done is cut the pieces out!

My friend wants me to sew her daughter a dress, which I want to do but for which I have up to now had zero enthusiasm. I didn't realise I was so selfish! But I recently won a cracking vintage pattern on ebay, and so feel suddenly inspired.

It's the perfect size for her. I have the bodice and skirt sewn up so far.

But, I also want another bat-wing top.

I am loving this, my circle print top, and I have bought some pink and white stripe interlock knit for this purpose, which again is cut out but nothing sewn yet.

This is all too much - it's CHAOS!

Too much! I don't know where to start!  How do you organise your sewing? Do you have a list? And physically how do you manage multiple projects so they don't get all muddled? I am missing my neat and tidy ways; enthusiasm has its drawbacks.

  1. Wow, you have been a busy bee! Looks like you have lots of things in the pipeline. I currently have lots of ideas and plans but promised myself not to start anything new until I finish my 1960's coat which I haven't touched since late November... eekk its going to be Spring before I finish it!

    1. That's what I am normally like. Good luck with the coat when you feel ready to tackle it again.

  2. I'm completely the same just now. My head is so full of inspiration and ideas, that I don't know where to start. I don't like having multiple projects on the go, but when I do, I store them (pattern, fabric, thread plus any other notions) in a tote bag - one project per bag. It kind of works. Unless I run out of tote bags. I have no idea how to "manage" them though, so that they end up finished before the next shiny idea takes hold. Good luck with yours!!!

    1. Project bags are a great idea everything in one place.

  3. Looks like you've been a busy bee! I tend to stick to one sewing project at a time, otherwise I've found I end up feeling overwhelmed and everything takes longer. I have an ever-growing list where I write down any ideas, and then prioritise what actually gets made!

    1. I do have a list. But things kind of got bumped! Oobop did a blog post on organising her patterns on evergreen a little while back. Think I am going to go back and re-read.

  4. I am a huge list maker. I cannot function efficiently without my lists :) For sewing, I organize by pattern and list the fabrics I want to use for each underneath. I get a lot of satisfaction crossing out my finished makes. This way, I can still think about future projects without getting off track or ending up with a huge UFO pile.

    1. I know what you mean about crossing things off. Such a sense of satisfaction.

  5. If I spent all the time I spend thinking about sewing actually sewing I would be much more productive! Currently I can only manage two projects at once - one for sewing club and one for home! I love your batwing top and that regency dress - amazing!!!!

  6. I am in chaos as well, too many ideas too little time. I have no good way of storing projects, at the moment they are all piled together in a basket that I doubt I will see the bottom of again :)

  7. Oh, I hear you! I have a master list that helps me, and while I try to keep to one project at a time, sometimes it does get out of hand, especially if I'm, say, doing machine sewing in a block of time and saving the hand sewing for later. Keeping projects bagged up separately helps. But it's always nice to get back to a single focus!

  9. Agh! It's so tricky isn't it?! I don't think there's anything wrong with having multiple projects on the go at any one time xxx
